JOHN DALE CALHOON, SR.
John Dale Calhoon, Sr., 61, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, was called home on January 29, 2026. Born on October 22, 1964, in Fairbanks, Alaska, he was the son of Dexter Calhoon and June Howell Hernandez. John shared a devoted marriage with his late wife, Johnnie Melinda Downey Calhoon, and their life together was filled with simple joys and deep companionship. They especially loved taking road trips, exploring the world side by side until her passing. A man of quiet creativity, John enjoyed drawing, sketching, playing guitar, and riding motorcycles. He found peace in the open road and fulfillment in the arts he practiced. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family, who knew him as a gentle, steady presence. John was a simple man in the most meaningful sense, content with life’s small pleasures, loyal to those he loved, and grounded in who he was. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
John is preceded in death by his father, Dexter Calhoon; mother, June Howell Hernandez; wife, Melinda Downey Calhoon; great grandmother, MaryAnn Howell; and sister, Elizabeth Calhoon.
